I took Cade to an allergist, and told him that the GI referred me because of Cade's reflux. The allergist scoffed, and said that seasonal allergies cannot cause reflux. When I explained what the GI said, the allergist said, well, seasonal allergies can have a secondary influence on reflux, but cannot cause them directly. Whatever!! It wasn't my idea. Then the allergist asked how long Cade had had allergies, and what we had tried giving him to relieve them. I told him it has been about 3 years, and we haven't tried much of anything yet. He looked at me like I was crazy for not treating Cade's stuffy nose all this time. I told him that our primary concern has been his reflux. When he is having reflux so severe that throw up comes up into his mouth several times a day, a stuffy nose does not seem like a pressing concern. They did the allergy skin test, and Cade is allergic to many, many things. He is very allergic to grass and trees, and is also allergic to house dust, dogs, and cats. No food allergies, which is good. So the allergist gave Cade a prescription for Flonase, and he has been trying that for a month. I think it seems to help, but it is hard to tell because his allergies (like his reflux) come and go. So I'm not sure if the flonase is helping, or if he just doesn't have bad allergies and reflux right now. But the fact that both his stuffy nose and reflux are much better right now is a good sign I guess. Time will tell. The allergist made me feel like the worst mother ever for not seeking help for Cade's stuffy/runny nose before now. I have taken him to the pediatrician many times in the past 3 years, and only once did they seem concerned about his allergies. If his pediatrician wasn't concerned about it, how am I supposed to know that I should be? I have four kids, and a stuffy nose isn't a top concern. Oh well--not all doctors have good bedside manners. Some are rude and condescending. I guess even the rude ones can write a prescription and make a diagnosis, so I'm glad I took Cade, and I'm glad to know all of the things that he is allergic to. He was a trooper, and put up with all of the pricking really well. He had lots of itchy welts on his back afterwards, but the allergist gave him an antihistamine on the way out of the office, so by the time he got home, he looked and felt much better.

Cade's Golden Birthday
Cade turned 9 on March 9th. He is in 3rd grade, and he is in the 25th percentile for his height and weight. What he lacks in stature, he makes up for in personality. Cade gets along with anyone and everyone. He is so friendly and outgoing.
Cade is an easy-going kid. He is so loving and sweet. He tries hard to keep the peace between his siblings, and to make everyone happy. When he gets mad, he gets really, really mad. But thankfully, that doesn't happen too often.
Cade didn't ask for much for his birthday. He got some cash, some Webkinz, and a surprise...a new hamster!
We gave him the hamster bedding and food as a gift, and let him pick out which hamster he wanted at the pet store. He was so excited and happy to have a little pet.
He picked out a cute little grey hamster (more pix to follow). He chose to go to Olive Garden for his Birthday dinner, and I made him mini cheesecakes for his birthday dessert. He wanted Bahama Buck's too, but he was stuffed from dinner, so we had to wait and take him to B.B. on a different day.
For his birthday celebration, we took Cade and some of his good friends to Amazing Jake's. We went during Spring Break, and that place was a ZOO! It was so super busy, but the boys had fun eating pizza, playing games, and riding the rides. Cade brings so much personality, love, and fun to our family. I'm so thankful to be his mom!!

Cade's quote of the day
This morning, Cade said, "When Justin Bieber says he'll never say never, he's already said it TWICE, the fool!"

Cade's First Pinewood Derby
I almost titled this post, "Another year, another pinewood derby," but I decided to try to be a little more positive. It was Cade's first Pinewood derby!
Plus it was the first Pinewood Derby I've been to as a parent and spectator (and not a leader). Above is Cade getting his award from his awesome scout leaders: Cub Committee Chair Tera and Cubmaster Doug. And then a picture of Cade hanging out with his friend, Dallas.
Cade is all about the socializing. That's one thing I love about him. He didn't seem to inherit my competitiveness. He's always just there to have fun.
Chuck and Cade had fun building the car together. I helped with the paint job, so we all got to enjoy the Pinewood Derby experience. 7 down, 2 to go!

Curious Cade
Cade is a very curious little creature. It can be a good thing (like when he's super excited to learn something new at school), or it can be a bad thing (like when he's trying to figure out how something works, so he disassembles it). Being so curious, Cade asks a lot of questions. He is always thinking, and always wondering about one thing or another. Yesterday I jotted down a few of the questions he asked, and I'm going to give you a sample of some of the funny things he wonders about on a daily basis.
1) What is helium made of?
2) If there were no spiders, would bugs rule the world?
3) Mom, are you afraid of heights?
4) Is Plexiglas made of glass or plastic?
5) How long would it take to fly in an airplane from here to Tucson? Like one minute?
6) Do you think if one person was not born, the whole world would be different?
7) If I was a vampire, do you think I could suck all the jelly out of a jelly doughnut?
Cade keeps us laughing. Can't help but love this curious kid!

Cade the Cub Scout
Cade's first Pack Meeting was a rocket launch! These little paper rockets went super high. The boys had a blast launching them.
Carson is a Webelos.
Cade earned his Bobcat award at his first Pack Meeting. He has watched his brothers go through the rank advancement ceremonies for years now, and it is finally his turn!

Cade's Birthday Party
Cade had his Birthday party on a weekday afternoon during Spring Break. A lot of his friends were out of town for the break, but I didn't mind at all having a smaller crowd of 8-year-olds. :)
The pinata holder broke off after about the third swing, so Chuck had to hold the pinata for the kids to swing at. No major injuries resulted, but Charlie was videotaping just in case something funny happened.

Cade and his friends had fun splashing around in the hot tub.
Cupcakes and ice cream cones--a winning combination!
Cade got some fun gifts. I think his favorite things are the gift cards. He loves going to the store and picking out whatever he wants. He got gift cards to Toys R Us, Target, and Wal-Mart. Lucky duck!
Here's Cade with his best friend, Hayden. Cade had a lot of fun celebrating his 8th Birthday!

Cade's Baptism
Cade was baptized into the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints on Saturday, March 13, 2010.

My sister, Dina, and her husband, Scott, and my mom all came from Florida for Cade's baptism. Chuck's dad and Sandra came too. So Cade was surrounded by a lot of love on his special day.
Chuck and I are very proud parents of our little guy. Cade is such a sweet boy, and he has such a strong desire to choose the right.
Cade's Grandma and siblings
Here's our family. I'm wearing heels, so it looks like Charlie and I are the same height, but he's really taller than me now. Cade looked so handsome in his suit.
We are so proud of Cade. His baptism was a really special day.

Cade's Birthday
Cade had a Happy Birthday on March 9. He was super excited to turn 8. I took him some popsicles for his class birthday treat. After school, we went to Krispie Kreme to get his free dozen donuts for his B-day. Then he got to open his cards and gifts.
After opening his gifts, Cade got to choose where he wanted Chuck and I to take him to dinner. He chose In-N-Out Burger! After dinner, Cade went to his first official Cub Scout meeting. He has been watching his brothers go to Cub Scouts for years, and now it is finally his turn! He's really excited to join the Wolf Den. I forgot to take pictures--I'll have to get some of him in his new uniform soon (I even sewed on all his patches already!) After Cub Scouts, Cade wanted to go to Bahama Bucks for a treat. It was a fun day, full of fun stuff, all for Cade.

Eight is Great!
Cade turned 8 on March 9.
Here are some pics I took for his baptism program and to display at his baptism.
Cade is a happy guy. He is so friendly and outgoing. He has a way of making everyone around him laugh and feel at ease. Cade says the funniest things. I have no idea where he comes up with the hilarious things he says, but he keeps us laughing every day.
Cade has such great faith. He makes sure he says his prayers every day and night, and he really tries hard to do what is right. He brings so much joy to our lives. I feel so blessed to be Cade's mother.

Cade's Field Trip
I went with Cade's class on a field trip to see the play "Bodyology" at the Orpheum Theater. Here is our group: Tylee, Joleigh, Sam, Cade, Justin, and Mitchel (jacket over his head).
It was a cute play, and the kids seemed to like it. Then we went to a park to play and have lunch.

Oh Tooth Fairy...
Have we got a tooth for you! Cade had an extra tooth behind his front teeth on the roof of his mouth. His orthodontist wanted it removed so that the roots wouldn't interfere with the growth of his incoming permanent teeth. So he went to the dentist looking like this...
They just yanked the tooth right out! Cade was so super brave. I was proud of him. He barely flinched when they gave him the shot of novacaine, and he didn't even blink when the dentist yanked the tooth out. After months of being called "snaggletooth" and hating that extra tooth, and then days of worrying about the pulling of the tooth, all of a sudden it was out! Cade said, "Holy Cow! That was it??" Cade was so happy to have it out, and he enjoyed showing off the tooth at school to all his friends. It wasn't nearly as traumatic as I thought it was going to be, and his mouth healed so quickly. Several days after the pulling, his mouth looked like this...We're still waiting to see if the tooth next to Cade's right front tooth is going to grow in without any intervention, or whether we're going to have to do phase one braces to move that right front tooth back into place and out of the way so the tooth next to it has room to come in. His next ortho appointment is in April, so we'll decide then whether he needs braces or not. Fun, fun! In the meantime, the tooth fairy had better pay up because this is one unique tooth she'll be adding to her collection.
And he came home from the dentist looking like this...
